YEY!!!
Go to MIKITO’s interview!!
RS : How did BAAL form?
MIKITO : I was a member of a Death/Industiral band with a few other people however I wasn’t writing the music, I was just the guitarist. At the time, I wasn’t satisfied with my position and so I started up a new band so I could express my own opinions of the world.
I looked for members for a while but had difficulty finding people. Too many were only interested in the band as a hobby and they had very little in regards to originality. There is no way I could be in a band with someone who has a half-arsed attitude towards their music. This is something I’ve always stood by.
At the same time that I was looking for band members U-tarou’s band that she was singing for disbanded, so I invited her to come join mine. Our ambition together was to create a band that could take on the world.
When we were looking for a drummer we posted fliers in rehearsal studios all over Tokyo. Several weeks later, Chihiro applied and spoke of similar ideas and opinions to our own. We jammed together for a bit and we hit it off immediately. There was a great atmosphere and so we asked Chihiro to join us.
We began under a different name but changed it to BAAL in 2005.
RS : Baal is a mythological name for a demon. How dose the bands name symbolize
the band itself?
MIKITO : You’re right. The name BAAL itself has several meanings depending on provenance and religion. However, our understanding of “BAAL” is that it is the King of Hell’s army.
This corresponds exactly with what I desire to express through my music!!
Industrial, Hardcore, Metal and Heavy Rock, I want to mix them all together and make powerful music to shove in the face of the world!!
The name is my ideal so I’m pretty fond of our name!
Together we can be strong because we bear the name of BAAL.
RS : How is the Japanese scene doing?
MIKITO : It’s not good…
In Japan, Industrial/Cyberpunk scene is really small. It is really smaller than you can possibly imagine!
Of course, I think it its a mission of BAAL’s to help the scene grow and lead it if needs be.
RS : Angelspit says that they were blown away by the amount of energy from your
live show.
MIKITO : I’m honored!!
RS : How do you describe a live show and what do you try to achieve
during one.
MIKITO : I have a lot of confidence in our live show.
I hone my concentration before we go out so that it explodes out of me once I hit the stage. I think the notion is similar to that of an athlete before they compete.
Somtimes in the past, people have misunderstood and thought that our live show is the product of alcohol and drugs. But they are VERY mistaken! We never drink before a gig and we never use drugs so generate the intensity we deliver on stage.
I’m unable to skimp on a live show.
If I’m not concentrating enough whilst I’m out there, whats on my mind is reflected in my performance. We’re not some boring EBM band that can whip out a show using one laptop. We strive to create a sense of limitless energy born from a powerful, living entity.
BAAL’s live shows are the place from which our power pours. We’ve got to gear up to spread the word of BAAL, to express BAALs sound on stage takes life.
Before our live shows we’re usually really stressed, under a lot of pressure and we get really nervous! Because we know we don’t want to let our fans down and we can’t stop no matter what.
RS : What’s on the horizon as far as music, music videos, tours and other band
projects?
MIKITO : We’re currently working on the next album and it’s bound to be hardier and heavier than anything we’ve done!
We also have plans to make a video of the next album’s title track.
In regards to touring, we currently don’t have anything scheduled. However we’d really like to do a USA and Europe tour so we’re hoping that wish can come true!
We’ve also invited Angelspit to Japan. We toured with them in Australia last year and had a really brilliant time so we’re hoping to return the favour.
I know we together we can complete another “Tour of ROCK” and we’ll destroy TOKYO!
RS : Anything else you’d like to say to the fans?
MIKITO : Trust in yourself. Follow the road you believe in. You might feel lonely or fear doing things that are different to those around you, but when you believe in yourself and do it, your dreams will come true.
This is what we’ve always done so believe in yourself and do it!!
ROCK!!!
U-tarou : To our dear friends of ROCK!!
